Ilinois-based Green Manufacturer magazine launched their first annual Green Manufacturer Product Innovation Award competition this year. The competition was open to technology developers and manufacturers that have debuted new products designed to ensure environmental sustainability. The product entries received were said to be diverse, ranging from biological building materials to welding tools, and each having a unique set of qualifications and realm of applications. Product evaluations were rigorous and thorough, drawing evidence from third party testing and certification, reports to published databases, provision of specific metrics and quantitative information, and customer testimonials with quantitative data. The evaluations were conducted by a panel 10 industry experts, both manufacturers and consultants from a wide range of companies, who judged the entries “framed by their own industry backgrounds and perspectives on the products’ usefulness to their companies.” Entries had to address environmental impact and enhancement, critical and thoughtful cradle-to-cradle or cradle-to-grave life cycle design, and the sustainable practices that the company uses in the manufacture process.

The panel was impressed and pleased to award the Bronze award to Bioroof’s entry for Bio-Module modular vegetated green roof system. Bio-Module boasts incredible environmental performance results and critical attention to product life cycle design, and then successfully demonstrates environmentally responsible practices throughout the manufacturing, installation, and post-installation process. Year after year, Bioroof continues to strive to improve its green roof components in order to maintain the highest performing green roof systems on the market.
