Growth Media Depth: 3-4" and 6-8"
Vegetation: Native perennials consisting of two different wildflower mixes. Test plot species include: prairie grasses, flax, goldenrod, golden aster, and cinquefoil.

This roof features a beautiful, natural native meadow in the harsh climate of Northern Alberta. The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is conducting ongoing research on this rare success in Edmonton. The project includes test plots designed by retired NAIT research scientist, Dr. Leonie Nadeau, with the intention to continue to test and determine the best plants for the dry and windy rooftop environments of Northern Alberta.

Depending on the structural limitations of the roof, growth media depths varies across the entire roof, from 3-4" areas in the centre and 6-8" areas along the edges. The Native Plant Producers Society of Alberta donated 1,500 seedlings for the project.

Pictures show the stages of installation of a Bioroof Eco-System combined with terraseeding of the native perennials.
